The well-attended event featured presentations from students in Base 11’s Academic Year Internship and STEM Entrepreneur programs. Students also took questions from the audience to further detail and discuss their projects.  IDMI Director, Lorenzo Valdevit offered opening remarks to the event.
Base 11 is a non-profit outreach organization that was created to unite America’s high-potential, low-resource students with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) opportunities.  Its goal is to connect employers, academic institutions, and entrepreneurial opportunities with students who have demonstrated interest and talent, but lack access and resources to fulfill their maximum potential. The program offers three tracks to its students: academic-year internships and paid summer fellowships, a STEM entrepreneur program and a workforce development program.  Success is defined in three categories:  admission to a four-year college in a STEM related field; STEM-related employment; or creation of a STEM-related business.
